Casual Outfits for Laid-Back Lifestyles
There is an art to coordinating casual outfits without looking frumpy. It requires building a rotating capsule of comfortable and creative basics. When you have a well-stocked wardrobe that looks and feels great, gone will be the days of, “Ugh, I have nothing to wear!”
Too many choices overwhelm me, so I keep my wardrobe as effortless as possible. And at this phase of life I have no desire to sacrifice comfort for style. Classic staples paired with unique accessories are music to my ears.
“Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous. But it’s how people dress in their days off that is the most interesting.”
So, how do you build a capsule wardrobe of casual outfits that won’t get boring? Easy-peasy. You find the silhouettes, colors and patterns that make you feel good. Then, you incorporate the following five pieces and mix and match. These pieces are like chic gar-animals. And casual outfits don’t get more laid back than that.
T-Shirts – Keep your closet stocked with comfortable t-shirts in flattering colors. I like v-necks in black, green and blue. They’re the perfect versatile staples for layering. Pair with jeans, trousers or skirts.
Jeans – A pair of dark-wash bootcut jeans and a pair of medium-wash boyfriend jeans are all you need. Pair with t-shirts, blouses and sweaters.
Trousers – Great fitting trousers are an easy go-to for any occasion. Pair with a t-shirt and jacket or sweater and a statement necklace.
Denim Jacket – This one’s a no-brainer. Pair with trousers or a casual dress.
Unique Accessories – Wear necklaces and bracelets that jive with your personality. And don’t overlook your handbag. Choose one that can take jeans and a t-shirt to a sophisticated level.

“I wish I invented blue jeans. They’re the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal and simplicity.”
—Yves Saint Laurent
When you have dependable basics, you have endless options. Casual outfits should always consist of comfortable and flattering pieces that make you feel good inside and out. Cause when you feel good, you look good. And that’s a win-win.
