The key to a well-planned party is good music, effortless sociability, and delicious food and drinks. Some party hosts enjoy serving their guests. I prefer to enjoy the party myself. And thanks to these creative self-serve party ideas, I can do less serving and more enjoying.

Music is the heartbeat of a party. I rely on Spotify for the perfect party music. You can’t go wrong with artists like Leon Bridges, John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Sometimes you want a little, like Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Marvin Gaye. At some point, you tap into the Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac and Journey.

Sociability is the second layer of a successful party. One way to break the ice is Cards Against Humanity. One player asks a question from a black card. Everyone else answers with their funniest white card. It’s good fun. If there are kiddos at the party, Two Truths and a Lie is a fun PG alternative.

The most important detail of the party is the food and drinks. A self-serve bar of wine, beer and margaritas is a no-brainer. As for snacks, go for the savory, salty and sweet trifecta. These self-serve party ideas do not disappoint. (Click images for details.)
